Platelet - Rich Plasma Skin Rejuvenation
The Skin Rejuvenation Clinic in Christchurch was the first in New Zealand to do a “Bio Active Facial Rejuvenation” using the patient’s own platelet rich plasma.
Dr Brigid Lee said that she had wanted to be able to offer her clients a dermal filler that was made entirely from their own blood and therefore 100% compatible with that individual.
Platelet rich plasma has been used in orthopaedics, plastic surgery, cardiology and chronic wound care. It has now entered the cosmetic medicine arena where it is used to regenerate aged and damaged skin. It has been used extensively throughout Europe, Asia and Australia and is finally available in New Zealand.
The process is based on using your own bioactive Platelet Rich Plasma. Platelets consist of granules which store multiple growth factors and it is these that regenerate aged and damaged skin. The plasma also contains white blood cells which stimulate the micro vascularisation which makes the skin healthier and more vibrant.
The process is simple and quick but not entirely pain free! A blood sample is taken and it is this blood that is separated at the clinic ,into the platelet rich plasma and the red blood cells. The platelet rich plasma is then injected back into the skin.
Dr Lee says that it is wonderful for treating the crepey skin on the neck and décolletage; it can also be used to rejuvenate the skin on the cheeks and midface and even around the eyes- right up to the lash line. It has been used overseas to treat aging skin all over the body including knees, thighs, arms and stomachs- it is SAFE to use anywhere as it is a ‘body own’ physiological product.
